Protect PCs From Storms

Louisville Geek engineers receive many calls this time of year due to thunderstorms. Lightning strikes and surges wreak havoc with computers, servers, network equipment and other electronic devices. Here are three tips to help protect your systems.

1. Connect computers and network equipment using quality surge protectors and battery backups. Ensure those surge protectors and battery backups are replaced every couple years to ensure optimal protection.

2. Ensure surge protectors and battery backups are installed properly. Laser jet printers should not be plugged in to battery backup receptacles, nor should surge protectors or battery backups be plugged in to one another.

3. Deploy network protection. Many surge protectors and battery backups include network protection options. Be sure to utilitze those safety guards to help lower the odds thunderstorms will damage your office’s critical equipment.
