Dangers Across the Globe Just A Click Away For Louisvillians
Louisvillian’s aren’t safe from Hong Kong’s dangers. So, too, do China, the Phillipines and Romania threaten those in the Derby City.
McAfee Inc. yesterday released the results of a new study showing that Web sites hosted in Hong Kong pose the greatest challenge to computer users. The most risky Internet domains – in other words, those most likely to infect computers with viruses, spyware and other forms of malware – are those possessing .hk domain names (as opposed to .com, for example).
Some 19.2% of all Web sites ending in .hk pose security threats, according to McAfee’s research. Other countries topping the Web vulnerability list are China (.cn), the Philippines (.ph), Romania (.ro) and Russia (.ru).
Computer users can protect themselves by exercising particular caution when visiting any computer domains possessing those domain names. In addition, Louisville Geek recommends all computer users maintain current, licensed copies of effective antivirus and antispyware software.
